Senior care facilities continue to be high risk settings for respiratory illnesses, which can spread fast, drive up costs for isolation, and negatively impact the ability to bill for services under the Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM) as defined by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services CMS RAI 3.0 manual. Until recently, facilities management had few options for mitigating these challenges.

With the introduction of SafER Medical Products’ portable negative pressure system (PNPS) technology managers of senior care facilities have an important new way to easily isolate patients with respiratory infections that provides 99% effectiveness, easily goes along with the patient to virtually all of their treatment services, and avoids the need for costly ad hoc isolation remodels.

Sometimes referred to as “the latex gloves for respiratory protection” SafER portable negative pressure systems can be fitted on patients suffering from respiratory illnesses to protect everyone they come into contact with from exposure.

This enables senior facilities to optimize revenue in three specific ways:

  • Group therapy or co-treatment can help your staffing and also productivity billing, and with SafER you can complete these tasks even with patients who are experiencing respiratory illnesses.
  • SafER can be used during Nebulizer treatment, allowing those minutes that are spent with qualified staff to be captured and submitted for higher reimbursement rates. Nebulizer treatment minutes are rarely captured. SafER allows the resident to
complete nebulizer with others present without risk.
  • Isolation can be billed and increases reimbursement rates significantly. SafER offers more protection than a standard nursing home room, without the cost of a negative pressure isolation room, which many skilled nursing facilities do not have.

In addition, facilities can achieve significant cost savings by using staff more efficiently, avoiding the costs of moving patients around, and avoiding the need for expenses to create ad hoc isolation rooms.

SafER Medical will be showing the PNPS systems at the PACE show October 13-16, 2024.
